“24Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

Father, remind us today of the exceedingly great reward promised to those who follow hard after You: fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore at Your right hand (Psalm 16:11). Such a rich reward demands a whole-hearted, earnest pursuit. Empower us to discipline our bodies for the purpose of godliness. Help us to make war on all that would seek to hinder us from running the race that is set before us. Keep us striving today toward the imperishable crown which You have promised to those who love You.
