Filling and Flattening December 16, 2006

Lar,

Here’s a good one I wanted to share by Tozer.

I once heard a brother preach on the fact that the church should be
without spot or wrinkle. To get the wrinkles out of a sack, he said,
you fill it. To get a wrinkle out of a rug, you lay it down and walk
on it. God sometimes fills us, the preacher continued, but sometimes
He just puts us flat down so that everyone can walk on us!

I think he is right. Our problem seems to be that we want the first kind of filling (at least I would hope we do), without the second kind of ‘flattening’. And it seems to me that the first many times comes after the second. It is those who are humbled that are filled. May the Lord grant us such grace!

Seeking to be humbled that I might be filled,

Joe
