Lar,

Thanks for pointing me and everyone else to that short article yesterday regarding abortion.  We are far too ignorant when it comes to that topic.  It is all around us and I think we could safely consider it the greatest evil of our time, but sadly, most of the Christian church seems too busy ‘following Jesus’ to do anything about it.  We are much like those who, though they were following Jesus, attempted to silence a blind beggar named Bartimaeus who was pleading for help and healing!   May the Lord grant us repentance soon.

Contrary to popular belief, ingnorance is not bliss.  It might seem easier for the time being, but in the end, it is destructive to all.  We as Christians have chosen ignorance for far too long regarding the topic of abortion.  We have chosen to protect our comfortable little worlds by keeping such evil at arm’s length.  Indeed, I believe we resist bearing the great burdens that the Lord calls us to bear.  And I think this is true not only on the topic of abortion, but on a host of other topics as well.  We value our personal peace and prosperity more than the lives of untold millions (over 1.5 million every year in America alone).  Let’s face the fact and fall to our knees.

If you want deliverance from your ignorance, a good place to start is abort73.com.  It’s not a comfortable place to go, but that’s exactly why we need to go there.  We shouldn’t think that the burden for the unborn is going to come out of nowhere.  We need to see this evil for what it is and then appropriately hate it and do something to change it.  I would also suggest that this is a great ministry to support financially.  Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Probably a primary reason why we don’t have a greater heart for the unborn is because we don’t invest our resources to save them.

A few other aspects regarding investment are time and prayer.  What are we actually doing to bring change to the foolish ‘laws’ of our land concerning abortion?  Do we even know what they are?  And what are we doing to actually see less babies aborted every year?  There are things we can do, plenty of things actually.  If we really care, we will find out.  Prayer is another big thing to do.  Do we pray for the Lord to give us a greater burden for the unborn?  Do we pray for  unjust rules to be overturned? Do we pray for wisdom for our Supreme Court Justices, that is, the wisdom to overturn laws that legalize murder?  I trust this is one aspect of praying for our government leaders.  What would happen if Christians really did this?!!  I would love to find out.

In the end, I would really like to emphasize the fact that a greater burden for abortion (or anything else really) will not come out of nowhere.  We need to hold it before our mind’s eye day after day and engage the heart with a holy hatred for such evil.  It takes work I suppose, work that sadly, few are willing to give.  I for one, need to repent.  I do pray and offer financial support, but I need to find out some basic ways to act.  That’s out of my comfort zone for sure, but that’s exactly why I need to go there.  It won’t take up all my days, but I suppose such actions need to take up at least some of my days.  Are you ready to join me?

Let us guard ourselves from the selfishness within that wants to keep such sin at arm’s length.  And let us be like our great God who delights to act for those who cannot help themselves.  O for a heart that is more like His!

Seeking to have the heart and hands of the Savior,

Joe

Amen! Good word. Let’s strive to take more steps towards being the hands and feet of Jesus in this matter.
