“18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit…giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Ephesians 5:18-20)

Father, in this verse, the Apostle suggests that part of the fruit of being filled with Your Spirit is to have a heart of gratitude.  And not only gratitude in our pleasant and comfortable circumstances, but “always and for everything.”  Whether in pleasure or in pain, we are promised that You are working for our good, Lord.  And all the pain we experience is only working for us a weight of glory that far surpasses whatever hardships we may experience in this life (2 Corinthians 4:17-19).  So help us, Father, to give thanks always and for everything, through Jesus, who purchased all this good for us by His substitutionary death on the Cross.  Because He suffered the full fury of Your wrath, we can now receive good from You all the days of our lives.  Let true gratitude rise in our hearts on this day, that we would rejoice in all the good that is ours in Christ Jesus.
