“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.” (Luke 6:26)

Guard us, Father, from having a love affair with the praise and approval of man.  We cannot serve You well if our desire is to be liked by everyone.  Jesus pronounces a woe upon those who are spoken well of by all, because the Word of Christ divides.  If we never experience the pain of rejection, it is likely because we have not faithfully represented You.  So help us, Lord, to be faithful in shining Your light.  Forbid that we should go out seeking hostility.  Help us to be humble and sacrificial in our proclamation of the truth.  But let us never hide Your truth so that we can gain the approval of sinful people.  May our heart’s desire to be to see Christ proclaimed and to see Your gospel advance, no matter what people might say or think about us.
