Hymn of the Day February 15, 2007

Thanks for your added thoughts on my post regarding the most harmful page in the Bible.  And thanks for not thinking that I am crazy.  Also the comment from Jim was encouraging, that he had thought about that same thing growing up.  I may get to some more thoughts on that at another time, but I really just wanted to throw it out there for consideration.

Not that this is a real regular feature of the blog, but you know that sometimes I like to post some lyrics to a great hymn of the past. So today’s hymn is Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me. I listened to it during devotions yesterday and it was quite a blessing:

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyes shall close in death,
[originally When my eye-strings break in death]
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

Mercifully clinging to the Rock that is higher than I,

“From the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” (Psalm 61:2-3)
