Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head;
let my head not refuse it. (Psalm 141:5)

Grant us humility, Father, to receive and to give a rebuke in due season.  Fear often plagues  Your children, that speaking a hard word in love will offend someone and drive them away from the truth.  Yet those who earnestly seek to be conformed to the image of Christ cannot do so without the loving and tender words of those who see our faults more clearly than we do.  May a rebuke from one who loves us be like oil to our heads, and may you strengthen Your people with love, so that we might serve our brothers and sisters by gently and lovingly speaking the truth to them.
