Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their King! (Psalm 149:2)

Father, we give You thanks for the blood of Christ, by which all who hope in You become ‘the Israel of God’ (Gal. 6:16).  If not for His atoning blood, we would have no hope of joy in You.  The contemplation of You and Your glory would only bring terror, because Your just wrath hangs over us because of our sin.  But in Christ we have been brought near to You who are the satisfaction of our heart’s desires.  In Christ we are able to stand before the throne of Your glory guiltless, and with great joy.  So help us, Father, to truly rejoice in our King on this day.  May the trials and cares of this life grow strangely dim in the light of what a glorious King we have, and what a glorious Redeemer we have, who has reconciled us to You when we were dead in sin and objects of wrath.  Help us to glory in the Cross, and to be glad in our Maker, in a way that would commend Your surpassing beauty to others for their enjoyment.
