“14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” (John 17:14-16)

Help us, Father, to walk the very difficult line between being in the world, but not of it. It is impossible for the light of Christ to shine in the darkness of this world if our hearts love the same things that the world loves. Christ “gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age,” (Galatians 1:4). So keep us, Father, from living for the fleeting pleasures of sin. Remind us, as Jesus was so aware of through His earthly ministry, that this world is not our homes. He did not court the favor of the masses; His passion was exalt You and to always do the things that are pleasing to You. Empower us to walk through our days with that same passion to see Your name exalted in us. Set us apart from the vain and futile joys of the world, that our lives would commend the beauty of Christ to others.
